The Panda Who Would Not Eat

The first male panda bear in the San Diego Zoo's Giant Panda Conservation program had a problem—he didn't like the food he was given at the Zoo. Shi Shi, the picky panda, didn't like the bamboo grown at the zoo and preferred one species of bamboo which grows at Quail Botanical Gardens in nearby Encinitas, California. This delightful story book, written for pre-school age children by Ruth Todd Evans, M.D., and accompanied by her charming watercolor-and-pen illustrations, is based on the true story of how Shi Shi's problem was finally solved. Published in cooperation with the San Diego Zoo and Quail Botanical Gardens, a portion of the proceeds from this book will benefit the Giant Panda Conservation Program and the new Children's Garden at Quail Botanical Gardens.
