He is given a letter by Harriet 'Hetty' Osgood from his brother, but before he get a chance to respond, Hetty takes off with a criminal from her past chasing her.
Harriet Osgood, is a teacher in Kiowa Well, Colorado when a wounded young man falls through her schoolroom door. He hands her a letter and the words ' brother, give him, Bucket of Blood, Pueblo' before he passes out. Hetty dresses as a boy to deliver the letter herself, but soon finds that the short adventure and good deed end up being much more than she expected.
