The Norther takes us back to when Tim Bannon is a young Ranger. He and his partner Stan Dolan track down a gang of rustlers. In the ensuing gunbattle, Stan and all of the rustlers are killed. Tim buries Stan, then starts back, attempting to outride a coming storm. However, he is soon overtaken by the storm. Lost and alone on the Staked Plain, Tim finally comes to the shelter of an abandoned cabin. What happens in that cabin is something so terrifying it will haunt Tim for the rest of his days.
