In Victorian Cardiff, Kitty's unreliable Da cannot always be trusted to provide for his wife and children so when they have to move to the country for the sake of her mother's health, Kitty has to take charge to keep the family together. But with little help from her disappointed father and none from her flighty sister, Clara, she must make difficult choices as the family goes through many trials and tribulations in their new life.
