About This Book

First in the series of Misfits, it can stand alone. Who are the misfits of Callahan County? One is blind, another deaf, while one cannot even walk. One stutters and has a stiff leg. Another is missing an arm. This family of misfits has been thrown together for convenience sake to journey to a small lumbering community in Lower Michigan in 1858. With the promise of receiving a farm in Michigan, the recently blinded Carter Denison reluctantly agrees to marry the silly and naive Fayette Hollister, whose unreleased grief over the recent death of her parents has robbed her of the use of her legs. After losing her family's fortune in a fire, she has been forced to go to the poorhouse. Fayette and Carter also agree to adopt the four children who are residing at the poorhouse, all of whom have physical challenges. In this would-be family, nine-year-old, deaf Gordy alone knows the Lord. As only a young boy can do, he simply lives his faith and so softens the hearts of his new family.
