The Market

Elvis lives, and John and Dan look for action. John, whose father died in the Battle of Britain, and Dan, a budding bird watcher, are friends. Together, they wait for something to happen, and sometimes it does. The market is dangerous and off limits, but the boys love it and desperately find excuses to visit. Then they get lost in London, rescue a reluctant seagull, learn what grownups do in remote places, and make cider with disastrous results. But, if nothing else, there is always the market, where tough adults go about their business and, secretly, in a run-down cinema, the boys watch foreign movies.
