After two months of relentless forward progress, Dante Jacoby has not only rebuilt his wildly popular Bay Area bar from scratch, but expanded his operations with two brand-new venues in San Jose and Santa Cruz.

Then, almost as soon as he has more money than he knows what to do with, he receives a message from a mysterious and powerful source: 'Go. Be a vigilante. Consider yourself sanctioned for action.'

With a green light from the clandestine world, Dante bursts forth as a defender of the innocent. It only takes hours to find a quest: his paramedic girlfriend, Sarah Santos, just had the butler for a powerful rural family die on her watch in deeply suspicious circumstances. Her employers are paid under the table to look the other way, and when she speaks up they terminate her: there's nothing she can do to get the truth about what happened.
