Times are hard in 1850s America, and young Reuben Watson Stone is carrying a heavy burden. As the man of the house, he feels responsible for supporting his widowed mother and younger sister by taking just about any job he can get.

While doing a job for a wealthy businessman, Reuben is thrust into a dangerous situation—one he isn't sure he'll survive; but when he turns to God for the first time, and asks for His protection, Reuben receives an immediate answer!

Soon, Reuben finds himself turning to God for guidance in everything he does. Then, with diligence and hard work, and God's blessings upon him, Reuben's luck begins to change. But though he knows he owes his new good fortune to God's blessings, Reuben is still reluctant to give his life to Christ. It will take one more dangerous situation for Reuben to realize how fulfilled his life can be with Jesus as his Captain.
