About This Book

Before Stone could handle the situation, the man glanced down and saw him hunkering beneath the window. He immediately darted back into the house. Stone brought his rifle up and fired. The shot penetrated the space the outlaw had just occupied.

Yelling at Leo to follow, Stone kicked the door open to find himself staring down the maw of a pistol. He threw himself to the side and rolled. The outlaw's reaction was slowed by of a large portion of the bottle. He fired as Stone landed and rolled onto his back. Missing, the outlaw's barrel moved slowly in an effort to track him. The outlaw fired again and missed as Stone made another complete roll. Having dropped the rifle in his evasive maneuver, he managed to extract his pistol and get off a shot, striking the drunken shooter in the abdomen.

As the wounded man dropped his gun and grabbed his belly, Stone wasted no time shooting him again. The second shot struck the middle of his forehead and continued to take out a sizeable portion of the back of his head, creating a bloody spray as it exited.

Stone and his fellow deputies now have five prisoners, including a woman. These outlaws along with the three he was forced to kill a few days before and another four the lawmen killed this morning, should wrap up this thing. All they have to do now is escort the prisoners to the nearest jail, however far that may be. Something about the best laid plans of men and mice soon come into play. No sooner have they reached the nearest telegraph office and informed the stage owner his troubles have been resolved, things take a nasty turn. In his reply, the owner tells Stone another stage has been robbed and another is missing. Stone will have to leave the prisoners with the other deputies and turn back. This time, he does not intend to take any prisoners.
