About This Book

Dr. Reagan Wright, professor of art history and native Californian, is returning to London, the city she once called home, for the first time in over three years. Having left with a doctorate from the University of London as well as a broken heart, she now finds herself back in the capital city. At thirty-one years old, Reagan is just beginning to make a name for herself in the academic community and has been asked to lecture at a weekend art symposium. Reagan’s trip, however, is derailed by an unexpected invitation to an exclusive one-night only viewing at the British Museum. The last minute show, catering to London’s elite, is supposed to reveal stolen ancient Sumerian artifacts recovered from a raid in south London. However, when one of the artifacts, a mysterious seal, is discovered missing and Reagan finds an ex-lover, heir to a prestigious auction house, brutally murdered deep within the bowels of the museum, she is thrust into the center of the investigation. Sir Aiden Blackwell, a Middle Eastern scholar and contractor for the Home Office, and Inspector Rhys Atherton, lead investigator of New Scotland Yard, are assigned to the case. While Rhys insists on pursuing the crime as a botched heist turned murder, Aiden believes that something more sinister is at work. Having heard tales from his Iraqi grandmother of the revival of an ancient Sumerian cult by young British officers stationed in the country in the 1930s, Aiden believes that the cult and its members are at the heart of the crimes and turns to Reagan for help to prove his theory. As Reagan and Aiden traverse London in search of the truth, the case’s body count begins to soar. Soon they are caught up in a web of money and power, unsure of just how far up the aristocratic chain the cult’s members lie.
