A brief liaison with a beautiful nurse has tragic repercussions that cause Jack Sipher to reassess his aimless drift through life and his role in the death of his father. A timely phone call from an old family friend seeking a favour gives him the opportunity to move on. Rich and powerful businessman Paul Everdell has kept in touch with Jack since his father, a close friend and employee died suddenly. Paul has a nephew, Roland, who he fears is mixing with the wrong sort of company and persuades a reluctant Jack to befriend and watch over him. Jack enrols in a north London writing group he knows Roland is a member of and soon becomes friendly with Roland, his friends and his beautiful and enigmatic girlfriend Saffi. Jack is instantly attracted to the mysterious Saffi, but he cannot foresee how his relationship with her and Roland will lead to such a dramatic and tragic future.
