The Lie

The Second World War has brought with it many changes to the lives of the Searles family, and now with the Battle of Britain looming and her father's body barely cold, youngest daughter Emily must put on a brave face to celebrate the engagement of her older sister, Frances, who is marrying into the wealthiest family in the area. But the party is filled with tension, for Marcus Danby is a fighter pilot and his fate couldn't be more precarious. Likewise his navigator, Simon Vane, who does a good job of distracting Emily from her worries, against her better judgement. Meanwhile, Daniel Searles is fighting his attraction to kitchen hand Alice, knowing that he could be posted overseas at any moment, and Henry, an excellent farmer but terrible book-keeper, is running the family farm into the ground. Unpredictable Clay appears to have a shadowy agenda of his own. With the war making time more precious than ever and only a gold-digging mother-in-law to advise them, Emily and her siblings are all in danger of making rash decisions that don't bode well for their future happiness....
