The Letter

Midway into the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln writes a letter to Jefferson Davis proposing they end the war on all fronts, making the North and the South two separate countries. The president calls upon a trusted friend, Captain Eli Wallace, to deliver the vital letter to Davis in Richmond, along with a fallen Confederate's general's hat to the general's widow in Pulaski, TN. Switching to the present day, Sarah Morgan settles into an antebellum home, located in Pulaski, across the street from a legendary spot in US history—a gallows where Union soldiers hanged a Confederate hero for refusing to give up critical secrets. The story switches between the past and the present until it becomes clear how Providence has brought these two lives—Sarah Morgan and Captain Eli Wallace—together, in a tale that involves mystery, fantasy, and intrigue.
