WWII Royal Navy, HMS Tintagel Castle on patrol in the North Atlantic escorting merchant shipping from America encounters submarines and has to protect shipping. Lieutenant Robert George Edwin returns to Chatham for promotion and to take charge of his own ship HMS Silverton, meets up with Lieutenant Justine Cilla Ford. Silverton is sent to the Med where they make various patrols picking up and dropping of agents, they pick up some men and a woman from Crete who had to leave the Island fast. Eventually they get word to proceed to Gib and then on to the coast of Normandy.
