The Jade Dragon

With much disapproval from her family, Elinor Rosslyn's mother had married a penniless, young English doctor and gone from Portugal to live in England.

Now, after the sudden death of her parent's, Elinor determined to go to Portugal to try to prove to her aged grandmother that her mother had loved her family and had wanted to re-establish contact, but all her letters had been returned—unanswered.

But Elinor's arrival at the barque Portugal mansion sets off a chain of harrowing events. A shadowy figure haunts the castle at night, and a hanging chandelier suddenly drops, inches from Elinor.
