About This Book

Seventeen-year-old Hilda travels to the Caribbean to visit distant relatives. She finds out shocking things about her self and about plans affecting her.

When Hilda receives an invitation from her aunt and uncle to visit them on the tropical island of Macnad, it sounds like a perfect vacation. But almost immediately after her arrival at their house she can sense an ominous quality in her surroundings. Her aunt is mysteriously ill, her uncle is involved in clandestine business dealings, and another visitor, named Mr. Gomez, is determined to win her affections. When Hilda, lonely and bored, turns to Mr. Gomez for companionship, he reveals a shocking secret about her family's past. And as each day passes, the girl becomes increasingly aware that she may never get off the island.
