The Golden Days

The future looks rosy for Dee and Ben Carmichael on their return to Bombay. Ben's career is flourishing and Dee is working as a correspondent for the Daily Herald. Then Dee interviews a man arrested for attempting to smuggle gold through Santa Cruz and begins to sense that the world she thinks she knows is not as it seems. Her friend Lorna Wesley, editor of the Bombay Tatler, evaluates her cynical attitude towards love when she embarks on a love affair with pilot Rawley Fitzgerald. Rawley is no ordinary pilot, however, and his cargoes have a disturbing element of danger about them. Soon Dee begins to suspect that Algy Byron, a face from the past, and new acquaintance, government official Brian Meredith, are also caught up in the aura of deception and intrigue pervading 1960s Bombay.
