The Ghost in the Sunlight

It was the heroic age, and the misty hills of Old Britain were to witness the last great battle between the ageing kings—South of the Humber was Penda, the blazing heathen leader of Mercia—North was Oswy, Christian, subtle, and determined to weld the land into one mighty kingdom.

And between the two stood Alchflaed, the beautiful impetuous princess of Bernicia, who casts herself into a marriage to save the peace of the land—and thus stirs up the evil ghosts of the past—ghosts of murder and treachery, of her dead mother's first love, and the ghost of a terrible secret that should have stayed buried forever.
