The mysterious drowning of Ranald Buchanan, an acclaimed Gaelic fisherman-poet, on the first night of the literary festival hardly sets the right tone for the celebrations. For one thing, it rekindles age-old fears about the Selkie, the seal-folk who claim their victims and drag them beneath the waves...
