For one show each day, and two on Sundays, the Freaks with Barclay's Traveling Circus of Amazing Wonders entertain crowds of spectators--the Gawkers, who buy tickets to stare at them, ridicule, laugh and scream, never knowing the paths their lives have taken to bring them to the circus and under the control of John Barclay, who holds their lives under contract like a devil capturing souls…

Bertha the Bearded Lady, who was once a beautiful baby vamp and the center of men's attention, Calliope the Snake Lady who wants nothing more than to be boring and ordinary, and Serena the Gypsy who insists that her real fortune-telling powers are fake.
