About This Book

Rhonda Wilson is a single Black mother on welfare. She is a daughter to a vibrant elderly mother. She is a young woman wrestling with her love for a young man. She is a mother to a six year old happy boy. She is a part-time clerk. She is fighting to stay afloat. She is smart. She is sometimes lonely. She is too strong. Most importantly, Rhonda Wilson is a Flyer. She is not a comic book hero. She is just a Flyer. A human, born with the uncommon ability to love intensely - so intensely that it causes her to fly. It causes her to fly and save people. Rhonda saves people from physical danger. She saves people from psychological depression. She even saves people from themselves. Under the tutelage of Freddy, an Elder Flyer, Rhonda sharply hones her flying instincts. By her teenage years, she becomes a legend. She is blessed with great skills. She finds joy in her calling. She sees a bright future for her life. Her mother encourages Rhonda to develop her flying instincts, which she inherited from her late father. And Rhonda does. That is, until she meets Donald. Donald becomes her reason for living. Her reason for loving. Rhonda stops saving others and focuses only on saving Donald. She senses that Donald needs her more than she probably needs him. So Rhonda tries desperately to save Donald. She tries to save him from hopelessness. She tries to save him from the darkness of the Black Caves. She tries to save him from death. Yet, after being recruited to fight in an epic battle against the enemy of the Flyers, the Multitudes, Rhonda's heart changes forever. Even when Donald proposes a commitment to Rhonda, she finds she can no longer marry him. She realizes that loving Donald is too confining and dangerous. Rhonda has to let go of saving Donald in order to save herself.
