The Flood

Suddenly she stepped off the road. Taking Satan with her, she went under the muddy water. Coming up for air, she struggled to reach the road. She was drifting further away. Reaching down with her feet, she could not find anything solid to stand on. Holding her cat with one arm, she could not pull herself against the current.
Moving over on her back, she floated downstream. She felt her shoes pulling at her neck. Flipping her head sideways, she allowed them to go. She knew her mother would be angry with her for losing them. She tried to keep herself upright and hold her cat's head above the water. Seeing she was floating further from the road, she began screaming into the darkness.
