Jenny Marlow has been corresponding with Wesley Pike in Arkansas, hoping he will ask her to marry him. While waiting, she is forced to move in with her dear friend, Martha Andrews, and her abusive husband, Harold. Harold is reluctant to harm his wife in front of witnesses, and for a time, Martha is safe.Wesley does ask Jenny to marry him, but Jenny now realizes the grave danger Martha is in. She tries convincing Martha to leave Harold and go west with her, but Martha refuses.After Harold grievously hurts Martha, Jenny fears he will kill Martha once she boards a train for Arkansas. When Harold grabs Martha and rides off with her, Jenny desperately tries to locate them. Meanwhile, Wesley grows worried about Jenny, and travels east to find her.Harold does not kill Martha but is holding her hostage. Distracting him, Jenny grabs Martha and they barricade themselves in a small room. Yet, they cannot stay there. Now in terrible danger, they have no idea what awaits them outside the locked door. And Wesley has no idea what he'll face when he tries to save both Jenny and Martha.
