Disillusioned, Herschel seeks a life of crime, becoming a fence - a purveyor of stolen goods - and struggles to find autonomy. But witnessing the example of Sam, his upstanding policeman father, Herschel eventually becomes appalled at his own victimization of the innocent. He decides on changing to the straight and narrow. Just a few more fencing jobs to pay off crime boss Sylvan Skolnik ... Fate won't let Herschel off that easy, though, as the young man falls deeper and deeper into the criminal world. Beaten up and left for dead, he finds the higher road to existence in a seemingly hopeless urban jungle.
