The Richard I. Parrish Trust checks were faithfully cashed each month, but letter sent to Rip Parrish's ranch in the Arizona Territory hadn't been answered for nearly a year. So the family's lawyer hires war veteran Henry Logan to go search for Rip, dead or alive. It is a job Logan is eager to take -- his lungs, badly damaged by malaria, could use a rest. But once there, a telegrapher's error has the townspeople in Arizona convinced that Logan is a famous gunman. He finds it harder to shake this undeserved reputation than to uncover the truth about Rip Parrish -- harder even than trying to resist the considerable charms of the number one suspect in the case: Rip's beautiful and mysterious wife.
