The year is 1952 and Maggie is graduating from college. She looks back at her senior year of high school, in which she succeeds in eliminating unconstitutional Bible reading in her home room. She reflects on her college life as a vocalist for her friend Mike's band, and her "foolish heart" romance with Steve. Back in Parker's Mill, new friend Jeff shares her concerns about the town's continuing racism and discrimination. Maggie confides in her sister, Sukie, about her feelings for pianist, Joe Michaels. Will she and Joe meet again?
