The Elephant Remembers, tells the story of the early attachment a young elephant develops for one of his caretakers; an attachment that remains even when the two are separated for many years and only reunited when both are in great danger.The Elephant Remembers, was judged to be one of the top 15 short stories of 1919 and was included in the O Henry Memorial Award Prize Stories anthology of 1919. It has since appeared in many high school textbooks as a classic example of a well-written short story
