Widowed and embittered, the handsome Jasper, Duke of Woolwich, has little interest in the ton. Having been young and romantic once, as a widower with an heir, Jasper has no need to ever marry again.

Miss Clara Blackman is a romantic booklover on her third season. She has read every novel available and built up a lot of fantastical expectations of what her husband must be like. The problem is none of the men in London meet up to her exacting standards. Nor does she quite suit them. But Clara is determined that this season will be her last as a single miss.
