Nigel Blake is a busy and popular doctor, who finds it easier to communicate with his patients than with his wife Carolyn. Having given up her nursing career, she is frustrated by domesticity and the lack of emotional warmth in her marriage, so when Nigel takes on Max Faber as a partner in his practice Carolyn responds to Max's obvious admiration.
