After finding a leather journal from another dimension in the basement of his newly inherited mansion, treasure hunter Kip Keene travels to a quaint Midwest town in search of a hidden portal to the mythical land of Shambhala. But what Keene discovers in the town is shocking: Shambhala is at the heart of a 2,000 year-old prophecy forecasting that the world will end in seven days. And the town's residents have sworn to ensure that the prophecy is successfully fulfilled. To reach the snowy mountains of Shambhala before the world burns, Keene and his partner Samantha Strike must reluctantly enlist the help of an off-book government agency with its own reasons for activating the portal.
