The Deadly Climate

Near panic gripped her, lost in the white dusk of fog and darkness. Where was the road back to the little town she had arrived at but yesterday? Could she ever escape from this fearsome, smoky pool in which she was wondering?


Suddenly two figures in the twilight gave her hope. Hope that was twisted into sudden fright as, helpless, she watched one of them beat the other to death. So it was that Caroline Emmett, uninvited witness of a murder, suddenly found herself in headlong flight from an unknown killer.
