About This Book

Barbara Slatter, a political activist, was abducted from a Dearborn, Michigan Holiday Inn. Roy, her husband, misses her deeply and after three years of loneliness he adopts a dog as a companion, just until she returns home. Max, a middle-aged Labrador, leads Roy on walks into the State Lands where he finds an unmapped island in the Huron River chain The island holds many secrets and casts a spell over Roy. He is compelled to return to visit it time and time again and with each visit more secrets are revealed. Taunted by midnight phone calls from confidence persons and Barbara speaking to him in his dreams Roy continues to seek his Barbara. Gradually, Roy remembers the conflict of emotions that was their marriage. His memory of an idyllic relationship is replaced by a more accurate memory of a marriage in conflict.
