Camilla, Countess of Wyckfield, heaved her book at Thomas. "Why, you... you...!"

"Bounder? Jackanapes? Dastard?" he supplied.

"All of them! Get out of my sight!" She didn't speak again until she heard him leaving. "Well, will you?" she asked, turning slowly. "Before you go, answer my question."

His broad grin became a small half-smile, and his eyes held a warmth that made something in her chest clench. "My lady," he said softly, "there is one thing you must believe: there's no role I'd rather play than that of your husband..."
