The Construction Worker

When Hettie Mast's fiancé leaves her the week before her wedding, she's heartbroken, embarrassed and ashamed. So ashamed, in fact, that she lies to cover the betrayal. Even so, her heart dares to hope, and when she meets Amos Wengerd, she wonders if perhaps all is not lost. Maybe there still are good men out there. Amos has a fall and is badly injured. Hettie worries for him and for his recovery. And she worries, too, that he doesn't feel quite the same way about her as she does about him. But Hettie has more to be concerned about. Tangled in the web of her own lies, she isn't sure which way to turn or how to get out. And until she confesses everything, a happy future will forever stay out of her reach.
