The Choosing

In 1666, bribed with the King's Dowry -- an ox and a cow, two pigs, a pair of chickens, two barrels of salted meat and eleven crowns in money -- Yvette journeys from her native France to find herself a husband in the New World. But how will she choose the right man from all the eager settlers who await her arrival in Montreal? Fate takes a hand when she breaks her leg, for Captain Alain Renaud refuses to allow her to participate in the ceremony of the Choosing. 'You'll never be an old maid,' he reassures her. But Yvette wants to choose her own husband -- and she will certainly not choose the arrogant Captain!
