River Heights is the site of the International High School Track and Field Games, and the rivalry between world-class athletes has drawn Nancy into a world-class mystery. America's Cheryl Pierce and East Germany's Marta Schmidt are the two top sprinters—but when the competition heats up, somebody's bound to get burned.

Sabotage threatens to destroy the games, and the race is on to find out who's behind it. Cheryl and Marta are running for the gold, and Nancy's running out of time: one misstep and they could all end up in a dead heat with disaster.
