About This Book

---When the Days Cottages in Truro, which have been welcoming families for decades, unexpectedly go up for sale to individual owners Marion Martin's grown children have designs on a series of photographs her husband took years earlier on Cape Cod which are now worth a great deal of money.

--Readers will recognize parents, siblings, children, in-laws and even parts of themselves in this story of the joys and sorrows of families today set against the legacy of a series of photographs recalling the simple charm of previous generations.  The Cape Dwellers is both a hard look at and a celebration of the many sides of Marion Martin's family, choices they have made and the shore that is always waiting and welcoming--regardless of the baggage they might have arrived with.

*Excerpt: ******The Cape Dwellers-- Against Marion's better judgment, we have used the mortgage and power money along with grocery funds for the next several weeks to return to Truro. With three children in sweaty, exhausted, heaps in the backseat of a Chevy I am not sure will even make it over the bridge we approach Cape Cod. Gas is low, money something we don't even know these days, as tiny tears threaten to collect in the corners of my eyes while I drive across the canal now. Seeing it all again spread out before us makes a year of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches worth it in this moment as my heart lifts while I call back to the sleepy and sweaty children that we are here--Cape Cod. Their faces press to the back window and hang out the opened side ones so their hairs blow wild in the breeze I have longed to know against my face again for too long a time. Inhaling the scent of sea air as we snake our way down Cape all the way to the moment when Truro spreads out before us in a torrent of sky and sea, I reach across the taped seat of the Chevy to my wife's hand and squeeze it tight. The Cape Dwellers have returned...
