      The Burning Wood tells the story of Joshua Cardiff, a white Christian boy who is attracted by the pagan Native culture outside his small prairie community. After a Cree sun-dance ritual, Joshua goes Indian, leading his new brothers on a buffalo hunt through cattle herds and becoming involved with a Cree girl.
