The Art of Holding On

Not every girl gets a fairy tale, happily ever after ending.

Some of us just repeat old family patterns. Single motherhood. Working two jobs and barely making ends meet. Stuck in the same rut until we die.

That's probably the best I can expect. Wanting more only ends in heartbreak.

Which is why my friendship with Sam Constable was doomed from the start. He was sweet, popular…and meant for better things than small town life.

Meant for better things than me.

So when he said he loved me, I sent him away. It didn't matter that losing him was like losing a limb. He had to leave town. It was inevitable.

That was over a year ago. Now he's back, and for some reason, he's more determined than ever to make me his.

Who knows if he'll still want me when he finds out what I've done.

But soon, I'll have to decide if it's time to fight for a second chance with the boy I've always loved -- or learn to let him go, once and for all.
