As a boy Paul Brandt became a saviour. In return he was given the mantle The Angel of Jena. Many years have passed, and now we are in the third instalment of his heroic adventure. He has made enemies of both the French and the English –quite a feat. Nobody needs two enemies, let alone one, and Paul must muster all his wits to navigate many perils. He faces the expected challenges that take numerous shapes during the cut and thrust of military life, but he must also cope with unforeseen deceit, duplicity, and double-dealing from within his own sphere. Back-stabbing and treachery among so-called friends are commonplace, as any seasoned warrior knows, but Paul must learn this for himself. Sometimes he feels like he is fighting on a constantly shifting battleground, like a rolling log on a fast-moving river. Just when he thinks he is about to get his bearing, his world shifts. Yet he must meet his challenges head on and ultimately rely on ingenuity to win.
