The Amethyst Necklace

Meirian Penlan is on her way to her new post at Blackthorn Manor when her coach is delayed by floods and she is rescued by the young Squire, James Caunce, who lives at Blackthorn with his widowed mother and younger brother Lyall. Meirian is soon deeply involved in the estate and the lives of the villagers. She is puzzled by Lyall's strange behaviour, and threatened by the brutish bailiff Tod Weir, who seems to have some hold over the Caunce family. Can she solve the mystery and become the next bride to wear the Caunce family heirloom - the amethyst necklace?
