Before the time trave, before the dimensional travel, there was the Second Civil War and the Second Korean Conflict. Book 1 takes place before and during the Second Civil War. John O'Dell finds himself leading what had once been military research teams, acting as temporary governor of Iowa, and finally leading the Union against the extremely hateful and dysfunctional (some things never change) Second Confederacy which changes their leadership constantly until the otehr smaller groups are finally cut out of the Confederate government...and out of the Confederate military.
