Suddenly surrounded by the fearsome-looking Covra, Lynx can only think of protecting Rain. Still trying to process that this beautiful woman is human, the warrior only cares that she is intended to be his mate and fights off the spider-like creatures coming into the room, but soon falls victim to their horrifying form of warfare.

Bannack and Pyra must race to find Ciyrs and heal Lynx before he is lost to the Covra. Back at the Denynso compound the women are struggling to deal with their emotions of having their mates so far away, though they know that they are doing what they need to do for the future of their kind. When strange news from the king forces them to look deeper into themselves and their relationships, and terrified communication from Bannack brings Loralia right into the middle of the conflict with the Covra, the clan must work together to ensure there is still a future for them to fight for.
