About This Book

A safari is an overland journey, usually a trip to Africa. In the past, the trip was often a big-game hunt, but today, safari often refers to trips to observe and photograph wildlife. Africa is a continent full of diverse cultures, beautiful people, stunning scenery and extraordinary animals.....the perfect background for Candace Carson's seventh children's picture book, "The Adventures of Sigi-A Day on Safari."

Sigi, a miniature schnauzer, chases a vervet monkey who stole his favorite safari hat through the African landscape. He encounters many animal characters during his pursuit who assist in his quest to retrieve the hat from the monkey thief. The pages beautifully depict the richness of the varied terrain of Africa from the grasslands of the Serengeti to the wetlands of Arusha region and the jungles in Kilimanjaro National Park. A variety of native plants and twenty-five animals are illustrated throughout. Sigi, is persistent in the hunt to recover his hat, is saved by others along the way and learns that it is the journey that holds the special prize.

Carson, who lived extensively in international countries when growing up, moved to Sarasota in 2008. "When I went on safari several years ago, I thought that I could easily live there; writing the Sigi book keeps me there. There is much to see, much to experience, and even more to feel. I wish that everyone could experience the wonders of Africa."
