A first-term sheriff is torn between duty to his office and the love of his life.

Dr. Tess Sweeney is finally settled and happy. Her great-aunt left her a lake home in beautiful Diamond Lakes, Texas, complete with boat. She's taken a prestigious position as Chief of Surgery at the local hospital. After a series of hits and misses with love, she's met her soul mate in Sheriff Kyle Monroe. Sheriff Kyle Monroe is rounding out his first term as sheriff of Diamond Lakes, Texas and gearing up his run for re-election. His staff is great. A tragic, accident places a critically injured child on Dr. Sweeney's operating room table. The child cannot be saved. Unfortunately, the child is the son of her ex-lover, who is also the local prosecuting attorney. Threats, murder charges, medical malpractice and blackmail pull Kyle and Tess's relationship to the breaking point. 

But Kyle won't let Tess go without a fight. If she runs, he'll find her. If she fights, he'll fight beside her.

Even under pressure from his brother and the county District Attorney to distance himself from her, Kyle is determined to clear Dr. Tess Sweeney of the bogus medical malpractice and homicide charges, even if success means he has to give up job and family.
