Taking Flight

Taking Flight is a book for children aged 0-7. It tells the adventure of the successful escape of six parakeets from the Zoo of Cap Ferrat in the French Riviera. The courage, friendship and determination of our friends Derbyan, Murphy, Plum, Barron, Slaty and Budgy will be an inspiration for young boys and girls. Will our heroes survive the winter chills? Will they be able to face cats and other predators? Will their friendship be stronger after their ordeal? At the end of the story children will realize that if they strive for something, everything can be possible in life! They will learn the importance of freedom. To this day, if you look carefully around the fisherman town of St.Jean Cap Ferrat, you will see lots of charming little parakeets flying through the harbor with their very bright colors. They were the inspiration for this book. Taking Flight is beautifully illustrated in watercolor by author, Piki Nestares Phelps. Based in the South of France, it brings your children an international cultural experience they will enjoy and remember.
