Three huge mechanical beings attack a remote Air Force base. Right after the assault, two mysterious "meteors" crash in the nearby Nevada desert.

When twelve-year-old Kevin Bowman sees the news, he can't believe his eyes. The huge robotlike forms look just like the ones responsible for a freak attack two years ago that killed his parents and left him and his older brother all alone.

That night, Kevin sees lights flash in the dark sky. Thinking it's a meteor, he ventures out into the desert—but instead of a meteor, he finds a thirteen-foot-tall robot crawling out of a crater in the dirt!

He meets the Autobot, Gears, who is on a mission to secure a secret weapons bunker and needs Kevin's help to find it. But someone has followed Gears to Earth....

When the Autobots have fallen, saving the world comes down to just one small human. Is Kevin willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for his new friend?
