It's 1937, the Great Depression, but also the beginning of the Swing Era of Big Bands...and women wanted to play the music: singers, drummers, pianists, trumpet players were forming all-girl bands to hit the ballroom circuit just like Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.

Ex-burlesquer Rita Ramone forms the Swing Sisters and the group moves from smoky hotel ballrooms to the cavernous sound stages of Hollywood. This is their story: Sara on piano, recovering from a painful divorce, former Vaudeville headliner Roz, on drums, hiding a secret desire, Tonia, playing a New Orleans trumpet, who can never share her forbidden love, and beautiful singer Lovey Anderson, aching for her lost child and torn between her dangerous passions for two men.
