England's fabled Lake District, where a much-loved English professor faces a grim diagnosis. As Esther McCully ponders the meaning of her work and life, she thinks about students over the years who touched her life in some way, and she wonders if her influence has been a lasting one. Her deepest regret is choosing her career over the man she now knows was the love of her life. A plan emerges in Esther's mind: She invites some of her old students to a grand reunion at a castle in the Lake District.
