Sunflower

Sunflower, a Native American girl of ten summers survives the loss of family and the destruction of her village by bandits in 1810. She and her injured grandmother are rescued by soldiers and taken to Fort Joseph where they are plunged into the white culture, an environment often strange, frequently confusing and sometimes hostile. This multi-faceted novel for young adults shows friendships, injustices and bravery. Diane DesRochers transports us to a placed of rugged terrain as you trek through the Appalachian Mountains and into Canada where Sunflower overcomes many obstacles and hardships.
